  • Knowledge of Basic laboratory principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the operation and care of standard laboratory equipment.

  • Ability to understand and follow printed manufacturer instructions for quality controls and Point of Care Tests.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during the workday.
Qualifications/Education RequirementsThis position requires the completion of a certified phlebotomy course or the equivalent/more advanced. Experience in a medical lab setting is preferred, but not required. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and liability insurance is required. Must provide proof of minimal liability coverage as required by the state and will be required to provide updates when renewed.Physical DemandsThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Maintains knowledge of tests, techniques, and instruments to keep laboratories in compliance with national standards.
  • Maintains, prepares, and evaluates new reagents and quality controls that are required for Point of Care testing.
  • Troubleshoots problems with quality controls, maintenance, and patient samples.
  • Recognizes Point of Care system failures, unacceptable quality controls, inconsistent, or erroneous patient results, and methods of corrections.
  • Knowledge of documentations for all corrective actions associated with quality controls, calibrations, and Point of Care testing.
  • Maintains lab supplies and inventory through initiating purchase requisition procedure.
  • Participates in research projects as requested.
  • Gather samples.
  • Performs routine lab tests using standard laboratory equipment.
  • Cleans and sterilizes laboratory utensils and equipment.
  • Receives written requisitions from providers for routine and specific laboratory tests and performs tests.
  • Sets up, calibrates, and performs quality controls on laboratory equipment to maintain good laboratory practices.
  • Obtains laboratory specimens for processing such as urine, blood, and aspirates directly from patients.
  • Prepares slides for use in microscopic analysis, if applicable.
  • Posts test findings on laboratory result slips for study by providers.
  • Identifies and labels specimens.
  • Files reference or research specimens and reports.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Meets all requirements, rules and regulations of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments).
  • Performs other duties as requested or required.
