Job Description:
Overview: The Medical Laboratory Scientist II WEO is responsible for performing, analyzing, and releasing laboratory tests on specimens to ensure accurate and reliable results by adhering to established policies and procedures. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining complex instrumentation, prioritizing workload to meet turnaround times, and staying updated on competencies and regulatory standards. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II WEO plays a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely diagnostic information that supports patient care and treatment decisions. This role has a weekend option, in which the staff member is required to commit to Weekend Option (WEO) requirements and work two shifts within the WEO window for a premium rate.

Responsibilities:

Performs all processes associated with testing of laboratory specimens, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.Conducts quality control and assurance activities to maintain accuracy in specimen testing and reporting for effective diagnosis and treatment.Maintains and troubleshoots complex instrumentation and test systems, documenting corrective actions prior to releasing testing results to contribute to reliable test outcomes.Prioritizes duties and manages workload to meet established laboratory turnaround times for efficient patient care and treatment decisions.Stays updated on annual competencies, continuing education assignments, and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with safety and compliance policies and procedures.Practices efficient use of supplies and actively participate in inventory control to maintain a cost-effective and well-equipped laboratory.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:

EDUCATION:Required: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, AND two years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids. EXPERIENCE:Required: 2 years experience as a technical generalist LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required: Must have Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) pr Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) or Technologist in Blood Banking (BB) or Technologist in Chemistry (C) or Technologist in Hematology (H) or Technologist in Microbiology (M) or Specialist in Microbiology (SM) by ASCP or AMT
