Consider joining our team!The Medical Technologist I functions independently under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Senior Medical Technologist.Responsibilities:Conducts basic and advanced tests on blood samples, both donor and patient, to insure proper transfusion of blood and blood products; at an intermediate level, recognizes and resolves discrepancies observed in blood specimens or laboratory equipment; determines procedures to be followed according to preliminary serological results of the specimens; maintains records of transfusions.Gains experience and develops working knowledge by performing routine and complex procedures utilizing complex instrumentation and manual methods Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation and reporting of resultsPerforms and keeps accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality control Refers problems and unusual results to appropriate personnelPerforms clerical and support services as needed.Responds to customer needs and requestsParticipates in proficiency testing of unknowns and internal and external continuing educationParticipates in continuing education programs related to laboratoriesQualifications:Qualifications:Required: BS/BA in Science from an accredited college and ASCP Certification Eligible or CertifiedPreferred: Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology and ASCP Certification Eligible or CertifiedORCertification eligible CLT at MGH with one year of performance evaluations which meet or exceed expectations andTen hours of documented continuing education in previous year within division, hospital or external programsSkills required:All of the skills and abilities required for Clinical Laboratory Technologist and high level of analytical ability and judgementGood understanding of department policies and procedures, test principles and equipment operationAbility to work independently on standard procedures and assignmentsHigh level of professionalismAbility to participate as requested in performance improvement, work re-design and divisional development projectEEO StatementMassachusetts General Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
