Job Description:
The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research is recruiting a Medical Laboratory Technician 1 to perform medical laboratory tests on human tissue specimens and provide data to health care professionals and scientists. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.MinimumQualifications: Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program as a Medical Laboratory Technician 1 if they have: Associate degree as a medical laboratory technician; or Completion of at least 45 semester credit hours of college coursework and a six-month medical laboratory technology training course; or Associate degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences and 6 months of satisfactory experience in medical laboratory work; or Completion of at least 45 semester credit hours of college coursework including 6 hours in general chemistry, 6 hours in inorganic chemistry, 12 hours in biology, and 3 hours in mathematics and 6 months of satisfactory experience in medical laboratory work; or High school graduation or the equivalent and completion of a satisfactory combination of education and experience in an acceptable laboratory. This combination may include completion of a vocational-technical program and 2 years of medical laboratory experience; completion of a structured medical laboratory technology program and 1 year of experience; 3 years of experience; or completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course of 50 weeks' duration and 1 year of experience.ORCandidates from within State Service can be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.ORIn accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Medical Laboratory Technician 1 at Nathan Kline Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position's minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.Duties Description As a Medical Laboratory Technician 1, your duties will include: Receiving, processing, and verifying receipt of specimens. Preparing specimens for analysis and ensuring they are labeled correctly. Entering data into laboratory management system Cleaning and sterilizing equipmentor unscheduled maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment and work areas are also required.
