Job Description ECU Health About ECU Health Duplin HospitalECU Health Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed facility located in Kenansville, North Carolina. The 15-bed emergency department serves approximately 25,000 patients per year. In addition to providing general medical and surgical services, ECU Health Duplin Hospital offers chemotherapy and other cancer infusion interventions and has earned national designation as a Primary Stroke Center.Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.As a MLT, you will:
  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
  • Works alternate shifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services).
  • Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.
Preferred
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
Other Information
  • This is a PRN, As Needed position
  • Required to work Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends
  • On-Call, as needed
