Medical Laboratory Technician Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates flexible staffing needs within the department. Uses department resources (supplies, equipment) in a cost effective manner. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner to medical director, co-workers and physicians through informal updates, written and verbal communications.
- Prioritizes/reorganizes workload in response to STAT requests. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for areas worked, communicates shortages to supervisor. Learns new procedures/assignments
- Produces Accurate Results with Minimal Clerical/Data Entry Errors Including Omissions: Correlates data and monitors test results for reasonability. Reports all critical test values to appropriate individuals. Procedures completed in an efficient manner according to established time frames (STATS, timed tests).
- Assures quality of results reported through quality control procedures: Adheres to laboratory quality control policies, documents all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Performs Phlebotomy duties. Performs specimen collection procedures, as required
Job Requirements:
- Associate's degree. Successful completion of a two year post high school program in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Meets federal guidelines (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/CLIA) for performing high complexity testing.
- One (1) year experience working in a clinical laboratory (preferred). Experience working with automated/semi-automated instrumentation and manual procedures.
- MLT certification preferred or proof of qualification to sit for examination within 6 months.
- Certified by the State of Washington as a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (MA-P).
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Note: MA-P and BLS must be obtained within 90days of hire
