The Medical Office Assistant is under the leadership of the Senior Staff Nurse and is responsible for providing Administrative Support and Basic Medical Care to students at the University Health Center. The Medical Assistant will greet patients, schedule appointments, answer the telephone as needed, maintain office inventory and order supplies, and coordinate with external healthcare providers. Handle confidential patient records and ensure all information is current and accurately entered into the Health Center's Database. Perform basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and preparing patients for examinations and procedures. Ensure examination rooms are clean and well equipped. Perform basic laboratory tasks such as COVID-19 testing, urine samples, glucose testing, etc. Perform any other duties within the scope of this position to assist the healthcare provider and nurse.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with six months of practical experience or training in a healthcare setting. A certification as a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant is preferred. Previous experience in a medical office or similar heath care setting; strong organization and communication skills; basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures; and CPR certification is required. The candidate must be familiar with Microsoft Office and have demonstrated the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Working Conditions:
This position may require standing for extended periods and interacting with students who have infectious illnesses.
This role may require some lifting that may involve assisted patient transfer or boxed supplies.
This is a full-time position that may require a flexible work schedule (possible Saturday or evening hours).
