Click for a complete list of Employee Benefits.Description:This position provides a range of both patient-related support functions and non-medical support services in the Department of Disability and Human Development (DHD) Family Clinic that provides clinical services at the Disability, Health and Social Policy (DHSP) building. This position applies knowledge of policies and procedures related to patient insurance, billing and account maintenance, and collections. They are an essential link between the CAHS clinical services at DHSP and various campus services and staff. Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Registers patients in the electronic health record system, creates patient encounters, generates patient encounter forms with responsibility for retrieval and accuracy of information; verification of insurance benefits, obtaining authorization for services and collects co-payments at the time of service
  • Performs clinic reception duties: greet patients; answer, screen, and route telephone inquiries; schedule call-in and out-patient clinic appointments in accordance with clinic guidelines; open and distribute mail; transmit correspondence and medical records by mail, e-mail, or fax; check in patients; assemble, prepare and assist with the completion of patient information forms; assist with patient discharge; complete insurance and other claim forms
  • Enter, code, verify, store, and retrieve information concerning patient medical records (manually, via the electronic medical record (EMR), or other computer information systems); compile and record medical charts, reports, correspondence, and insurance information using the appropriate system; ensure accuracy of demographic and insurance data entered
  • Establish, maintain, and update files and records for the unit; locate or monitor the location of medical charts; prepare reports
  • Operate office equipment, spreadsheets, and other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, financial statements, letters, case history, and medical records
  • Manage day-to-day office operations. Assist in ordering clerical supplies. Monitor waiting room area conditions
  • Inform new patients of institutional and/or unit billing/payment/insurance procedures and guidelines
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications Required:1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months), from the categories below: A. Work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Assistant level or in other positions of comparable responsibility.B. Work experience in a health care facility such as a doctor's, dentist's, or hospital's office; which involved record keeping, working with the public, direct patient contact, answering telephones, and working with medical terminology.C. Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial or paramedical program, such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary.3. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
