Brethren Retirement Community is an EEO employer - M/F/Vets/Disabled To maintain resident medical records andhealth information systems in accordance with current federal and stateguidelines and established policies and procedures and ensure resident healthinformation is protected and not disclosed unless by permission or withestablished policies and procedures.Essentialduties and responsibilities include the following:*Note:Other duties may be assigned •Retrievesresident records (manually/electronically). Delivers as necessary.•Files informationsuch as nursing notes, assessments, progress notes, lab reports, x-ray results,correspondence, etc., either manually or electronically into resident charts.•Collects,assembles, checks, and files resident charts.•Ensuresincomplete records/charts are returned to appropriate department or personnelfor corrections.•Ensures residentrecords are properly completed, assembled, coded, etc., before filing.•Extractsinformation from records for insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, long-termcare insurance, etc., in accordance to established policies and procedures andprivacy rules.•Picks up anddelivers medical records to designated areas as necessary.•Answers telephonecalls in regards to inquiries about medical records. Prepares written correspondence as necessary.•Files active andinactive records as per established policies.•Completes portionof death certificates as indicated.•Maintains logs ofspecific items as per established policies and procedures.•Maintainsrequests for medical records forms and completes as necessary.SupervisoryResponsibilitiesThis job has no supervisoryresponsibilities. QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, anindividual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum of 2 years' administrative experience and/or a degree or certificationin health information management or medical coding preferred, but not required.Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding, andother aspects of health information preferred, but not required.Language SkillsAbility toread and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, procedure manuals, and federal and state regulations. Ability towrite routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees oforganization.Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amountssuch as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, areacircumference, and volume. Ability toapply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common senseunderstanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagramform. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables instandardized situations.
