The Oncology social worker supervisor provides direct social work intervention, Distress Screening assessment, transition planning, and counseling to patients and their families. The supervisor assesses the patient's social, emotional, financial, cultural and family situation and interprets this information to the physician, nursing staff and other care team members to facilitate appropriate transition planning. The supervisor assists patients, families and the general public who request assistance in making appropriate linkages to community resources and provide consultation to those seeking input and guidance in an effort to resolve patient concerns. The social worker supervisor (independent licensed SW) provides clinical oversight and co-signature of dependent licensed staff. The supervisor coordinates and oversees the activities of the social work team, provides daily coordination of team workload and assignments as well as resource to team members regarding difficult clinical and operational issues. Administrative duties include assisting in selection of and orientation of new employees and evaluating individual staff performance.
