Purpose of this position is to use medical equipment such as steamers, High level Disinfectant washers, sonic equipment, heat sealers to perform a variety of tasks necessary for the processing of sterile supplies for distribution to the OR service, acute patient care nursing units and various outpatient clinics. Operate various kinds of equipment such as ultrasonic cleaners, washers, and sterilizers.* Disassemble and clean equipment such as suction machines, heating/cooling machines, infusion pumps, etc. using approved disinfectants, detergents, and cleaners. Reassemble equipment after cleaning and tests for proper functioning.* Provides sterilization and control of sterilized supplies and equipment by using AAMI, federal regulations, and AORN standards regarding cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, quality control/verification of process, packaging, storage, recalls due to process failure, and implants.* Selects appropriate method when wrapping supplies to prevent breakthrough, dates and labels packaging upon completion. Assists in maintaining the sterility of supplies.* Performs daily and/or load biological testing of sterilizers, records and notifies Charge Nurse/Supervisor Nurse of any contaminated loads so they can institute recall procedure. Assists in maintaining level of supplies necessary for management of patient care in in-patient and out-patient areas.* Demonstrates knowledge of asepsis and sterilization methods. Receive trays, sets and equipment from sterilizer, check for effectiveness of sterilization, places tags on sterilized material indicating date of sterilization and expiration date, stock shelves.
