We Are Blood, your local non-profit blood bank is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will embody our commitment to serving the community and upholding the highest standards for ourselves.
The shift: Weekend Sat, Sun, Mon, Tuesday 1 PM to 11:30 PM. 4 - 10 hour days.
Differential City! This person will receive an extra 25% differential extra for working our weekend and evening shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all patient testing functions. This includes ABO testing, antibody screens, antibody identification work-ups, antigen testing and cross matching.
- Process Apheresis platelet products and Acrodose platelet manufacturing according to manufacturer guidelines while ensuring compliance with FDA & AABB standards,
- Efficiently and thoroughly manage receipt of donor testing results from ETF. Ensure timely receipt of all testing results.
- Accurately label blood components that are available for distribution.
- Work as a team member to ensure the efficient release of safe blood products.
- Diligently and accurately follow all procedures for testing, maintenance, safety, and quality control.
- Ensure guidelines for good manufacturing practice and compliance with SOPs and applicable regulatory agencies are met. Actively seek guidance from department management when questions arise.
- Ensure all required timelines for proficiency and competency assignments are met.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by practicing all safety guidelines.
- Assist with validation protocols as requested by management.
- Assist the Laboratory Manager to maintain adequate reagent inventory and supplies through careful monitoring of reagent usage and placement of new reagent stock.

- As needed, learn special techniques for component preparation and administration.
Requirements:
- ASCP or AMT Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) preferred.
- Some Blood Bank experience required (2 months minimum).
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn, cGMP, AABB and FDA regulations.
- Able to work on call, rotate through on call schedule– extended on-call hours may be required.
- Maintain a positive team environment within technical services and throughout We Are Blood.
- Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Texas Driver's license, proof of insurance with the state required levels of coverage and an acceptable driving record.
Physical and/or Mental Abilities:
- Ability to focus in a busy and often noisy environment.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in an area where biohazardous elements can exist.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented.
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination.
