Salary: $18.68 HourlyLocation : Citrus County, FLJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 25-07Department: Public WorksDivision: Road MaintenanceOpening Date: 10/21/2024Closing Date: ContinuousGeneral DescriptionCitrus County's Road Maintenance Division is hiring a Medium Equipment Operator that will perform unskilled, semiskilled, and manual labor work in the operation of several types of light to medium equipment involved in the maintenance and /or construction of County roadways, right of ways, and other areas as needed.Working for the Road Maintenance Division you will have a direct impact in providing reliable, accessible, and well-maintained roadways that enhance the quality of life for all residents and visitors.   • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Operates, maintains, and services various medium equipment's to maintain roadways, right of ways, drainage, etc.
  • Operates medium equipment including, but not limited to, farm tractors, mowers, dump trucks, flatbeds, water trucks, backhoe, skid loader, mini excavator, roller and other trucks, tractors, or similar equipment. May occasionally operate gasoline powered machinery as assigned.
  • Cleans equipment and maintains all records on equipment.
  • Maintains record of tasks performed daily, and other reports and records as required.
  • Assists in removal of trees, debris, and vegetation to maintain roadways.
  • Operates heavier equipment on emergency, temporary or trainee basis, as needed.
  • Responds to after hours' emergency call outs as needed.
  • Assists with disaster preparedness and emergency response in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency event.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) months experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the type of equipment of primary assignment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
  • Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class A with N endorsement.
    • Will consider those who do not hold a CDL Class ''A with N endorsement but will be required to obtain Class At license with N endorsement Air Brakes within 120 days of employment. Those without this CDL are considered at a lower pay rate.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within one (1) year of employment, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours (includes nights and weekend) to respond to emergencies.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength, agility, and stamina to perform assigned tasks under adverse conditions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: A Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires a combination of standing and walking most of the day.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, balancing, twisting, reaching above shoulders, and occasional climbing, kneeling, and throwing.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, working in darkness, and operating a manual transmission.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, electrical hazards, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
