Wieland is hiring a Melter/Caster. The Melter/Caster will be responsible for performing various semi-skilled functions to support casting operations. Assembles, rebuilds, sets-up, maintains and operates equipment designed to produce copper tubing using continuous casting technology . This role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on-site.
Starting Pay: $19.28 per hour
Schedule: 6:45pm - 7am (2-2-3 schedule)
Responsibilities
Melter/Caster Responsibilities:
Performs all applicable SOP's, JSA's, and QAP's associated with assigned job title. - Assembles, rebuilds, sets-up, maintains and operates equipment used in the continuous casting process for copper tubing production.
- Operation and handling of melting/holding furnaces.
- Handling and work of any kind of refractory including castables and ramming mixtures.
- Support activity includes e.g. production, tool changes, quality checks, production PM's, reline tasks, and keeping work area clean.
- Handling, charging, and melting of copper.
- Handling of copper cathodes, chops, and plant scrap.
- Requires ability to perform quality checks including:
- No supervisory responsibilities assigned. Performs work under supervision and in a support, administrative or clerical capacity.
- Primarily responsible for work directly related to general business operations.
- Exercises limited, independent judgment, consults superiors on all but routine procedures, makes no independent decisions affecting long-term health of organization. Tends to follow well-defined procedures.
- Devotes less than 20% of time to activities other than those described above.
- ability to read, write, and do basic math is required

- Must be able to perform firm grasping, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, standing, crouching, sitting, negotiating stairs, ladders, and slippery surfaces in a hot/cold (summer/winter) environment, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work safely with, around, and wearing protection for cleaning chemicals, solvents, copper fumes, inks and lubricants.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
- Must be able to grasp and use a pry bar (20 pounds).
- Must be able to firmly grasp and use hammers, wrenches, and various hand tools during adjustments, repairs, and replacement/change-out operations.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
- Must be able to use a shovel during cleaning operations.
- Must be able to operate a jackhammer and Brokk robotic jackhammer
- No pacemakers allowed due to electro magnetic hazard.
