A Different Approach to Building Healthcare TechnologyAt Midstream, we are building software to solve the hardest problems in healthcare business operations and administration. We're developing a data platform to bring true AI-native data operations to core healthcare business functions, from supply chain to managed care to operations, enabling large health systems to massively reduce the administrative burden and shift resources back to patient care.We are a seasoned founding team, backed by a16z as well as some of healthcare's most well known angel and strategic investors.Position: Member, Technical Staff (Data Platform)This position is for an early, senior-level data engineer with a sustained history of achievement and a passion for building excellent engineering teams and cultures. Our ideal candidates are excellent engineers who have built large, performant data systems and have led and mentored other engineers on their team.This is a hybrid position, and can be based in NYC or the Bay Area.Core Responsibilities
  • Lead data architecture and design alongside Midstream's founders, senior engineering staff, and advisors
  • Lead the implementation of our core data processing platform, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Own the design and build of robust data pipelines, enhancing data storage and warehousing solutions, and optimizing ELT processes for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Drive ML model deployment infrastructure capabilities, guiding the team on best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Spearhead code quality initiatives by conducting in-depth code reviews, implementing advanced testing frameworks, and setting coding standards.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and decision-making processes, serving as a mentor for junior engineers and helping to elevate the team's skill sets.
  • Act as a primary technical liaison between engineering, product, and business teams, ensuring that solutions are aligned with business objectives.

Skills and QualificationsWe value experience that demonstrates:
  • Extensive background in data engineering, with a focus on system design and architecture in data-centric and machine learning environments. Includes expertise in data modeling, warehousing, and processing systems such as Spark.
  • Experienced in developing and managing reliable, scalable data infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on automation, data pipeline optimization, incident handling, and proactive monitoring.
  • Have worked with Kubernetes and have a strong background with infrastructure tooling such as Terraform.
  • Strong understanding of best practices for integrating machine learning techniques into data ecosystems and developing pipelines for ML models.
  • Experience building ELT to integrate data from diverse enterprise application systems (ERP, EMR, etc.), with a strong command of ELT processes.
  • Skilled in data visualization and reporting, capable of delivering actionable insights from complex datasets.
  • Excellent leadership skills demonstrated by a track record of mentoring junior engineers and effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
We require:
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in software engineering.
  • Expertise in multiple high-level programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#), as well as familiarity with cloud data & computing platforms and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with data warehousing (Snowflake, etc...) and data processing technologies

Total Compensation The estimated salary range for this position is estimated to be $160K - $220K per year, along with meaningful equity in an early stage company.
