Title: Transformation Coach

Unit: Atlas Hope Program

Salary: $55,000 to $58,600

Reports to: Crew Manager

Status: Full Time; Regular, Non-Exempt

Location: 502 East 163rd Street, Bronx, NY 10451

Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Position Summary

Atlas HOPE (AH) aims to add to the existing community violence intervention and prevention strategies in New York City by creating a continuum of care for adult men most likely to engage in serious community violence and least likely to receive the supportive services necessary to end cycles of trauma and violence. The AH program aims to meet the economic, emotional, and mental health needs of adult men, ages 25 and older who have had a history of trauma, lived experience with violence, and involvement in the criminal legal system by providing outreach, transitional employment, behavioral health supports delivered primarily through CBI, and coaching and case management.

Transformation Coaches are responsible for facilitating cognitive behavioral therapy groups and adhering to the curriculum, program model, philosophies, approaches, manuals, and policies. Transformation Coaches also provide individual coaching, personal development, and supportive case management to participants through a trauma-informed and restorative justice lens while working collaboratively with the outreach partner staff. Transformation Coaches will be excellent problem solvers, comfortable with conflict and facilitating conflict resolution interventions, energetic and flexible, collaborative, and proactive team members who positively and productively support high-risk participants.

Transformation Coaches empower participants to fulfill employment and life goals. Through the facilitation of cognitive behavioral intervention, coaches teach soft skills required to overcome obstacles and further develop soft skills.

The position requires excellent group facilitation skills, extensive understanding of workforce development, and knowledge of the local ecosystem of support services in the community.

The Transformation Coaches must demonstrate competency to develop systems and processes to organize and keep track of information or work progress; is routinely conscientious, thorough, accurate and reliable when performing and completing job tasks; and recognizes trends, detects inconsistencies, and determines essential details. Ability to multi-task is preferable.

Collaboration

The Transformation Coaches must collaborate and coordinate with one another to provide care and support to those who need higher levels of supervision and/or more supportive therapeutic services. Additionally, the Transformation Coaches will need to collaborate with Outreach Workers to effectively support them in managing their case and ensure attention to coordination in care for other services they might be receiving.

Participant Centered

The Transformation Coaches focus on opportunities to support participants. They have an ability to illustrate the highest level of customer care and empathy while thriving to resolve participant concerns and issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate cognitive-behavioral group sessions;
  • Manage a caseload of approximately 15 participants, serving as their advocate and providing case management;
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching sessions, developing individualized plans for participants;
  • Review daily feedback and performance reports, identify barriers to participant success in the program, and provide coaching and support to promote attendance, safe behavior, and effective participation in group sessions and transitional employment;
  • Participate in collaborative meetings to assess participant progress and plan services;
  • Facilitate transitional job orientations;
  • Visit participant work sites to understand behaviors in various settings;
  • Assess career interests and aptitudes, guiding participants toward suitable employment and training opportunities;
  • Lead job readiness activities, including soft skills training, resume preparation, and job search techniques;
  • Act as an intermediary between workers and employers to resolve workplace issues and promote retention
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation of all services;
  • Participate in regular, ongoing professional development opportunities including: trainings, facilitation practice, and receiving ongoing coaching and feedback;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree from and accredited college or university in social work, psychology, counseling, human services or education preferred;
  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience training, counseling, providing workforce development services, or instruction;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred;
  • Experience with job readiness and/or cognitive behavioral curricula facilitation including Thinking for a Change, OWDS, ART (Aggression Replacement Training), or similar preferable;
  • Skilled communicator who is able to liaise interdepartmentally as well as with community partners and stakeholders;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Excel, Outlook and Office 365;
  • Familiarity with the Fair Chance Act a plus;
  • Ability to apply skills learned from prior work experience, or formal academic training in a related subject area, to the day-to-day project activities; and
  • Demonstrated success in being participant-centered, self-motivated with excellent relationship skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team;
  • Experience working with the community in the South Bronx, a plus;
  • Experience and/or desire to work with a culturally diverse population; and

Travel Requirements: Travel throughout the New York City is required.
