**A Brief Job Description:**

This role involves being able to work autonomously and serve as a resource within the community to assist program participants with educational support needs. It requires the ability to promote an environment that encourages others to succeed and support their journey to mental health wellness and recovery.

**Primary Responsibilities:** (Additional duties may be assigned)

* Answer phone, share information, and register new peers for program services.

* Assist program participants with identifying and accessing educational resources.

* Engage individuals in a personal, supportive manner, creating relationships that emphasize recovery.

* Address mental health concerns and behaviors through teaching coping skills.

* Educating program participants about individual rights and responsibilities.

* Assist program participants with developing and implementing a mental wellness plan.

* Encourage program participants to become empowered in their own lives.

* Show leadership presence and represent MHA within the community to a variety of related mental wellness organizations and forums.

* Maintain appropriate records and complete paperwork in a timely manner.

* Comply with HIPPA regulations.

* Facilitate general housekeeping of office and program area.

**Education and Experience:**

Associates Degree in Human Services or related field experience equivalent and/or Bachelor Degree preferred.

Minimum two years experience providing education support preferably in a mental health setting.

Experience and knowledge of the public mental health system.

MUST have obtained or be willing to obtain within 12 months, NYS Certified Peer Specialist

Use ones personal lived experience in role modeling recovery and providing hope for others.

Reliable transportation and valid NYS drivers license required.

**Equipment, Machines and Software Used:**

* Drivers License, clean drivers abstract and reliable vehicle required.

Ability to operate various office equipment including computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, scanner, and calculator.

* Computer Software: Electronic Health Record experience, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

Knowledge of and connection with community resources.

Ability to maintain organized electronic health records for program statistics.

Able to work independently with minimum supervision.

Ability to prioritize and organize a variety of work assignments in a busy environment.

Demonstrated strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Must demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and competency with diverse cultural backgrounds, social identities and practices of community members and be willing to participate in anti-racism focused diversity training to increase skills in this area.

**Physical and Mental Requirements:**

Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

**Environmental Conditions:**

Work is performed in a typical office environment where there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions
