NATURE AND SCOPE: Reporting to the Disability / Mental Health Manager, the Disability / Mental Health Specialist is responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of Disability / Mental Health Services activities. The Specialist ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, other applicable requirements and assists in the organization of identifying and meeting family needs. This role also provides technical assistance and support to Family Services Staff Center Managers and Partner Staff. RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): Assist in the development and update of the annual Disability / Mental Health Work Plans, Policies and Procedures. Review education records and lesson plans for completeness and accuracy. Assist in the planning and delivery of pre-service and in-service training of staff, parents and volunteers. Work with other program specialists to ensure that health, nutrition, mental health / disabilities, and social services are incorporated into the planned classroom activities. Make scheduled site visits to all head Start Program sites to monitor Disability / Mental Health Services activities including tracking and follow-up, Health / Safety and nutrition services. Report program / site medical, dental, disability and behavioral concerns as appropriate. Monitor record keeping system to include reviewing program Disability / Mental Health files for accuracy, generating and reviewing child plus data, including the PIR and ensuring confidentiality. Maintain and monitor reports of all services and internal referrals / follow-up, referral packets on all children, including Health screenings, dental and physical examinations to meet the 45 / 90 day mandate. Track mandated health screenings / exams for all enrollees and schedule appointments as needed including Screenings (45-Day) Examinations (90-Day), Hearing Speech Physical Growth Assessment, and Vision Developmental Dental Blood Pressure Ensure files have a completed Health History and signed parental consent forms on all enrollees. Enter and maintain ChildPlus Health / Mental Health Services data activities to include immunizations / screenings, examinations / treatment and follow-up results. Track Disability / Mental Health Services delivered to children at all sites. Submits Site Visit Reports to the Health and Disability / Mental Health Specialists, Center Managers / Leaders and FSANRWs. Meet with providers and parents during scheduled consultation, in the absence of the Manager. Assist with planning of all Health / Mental Health services activities (i.e, fairs, conferences, and parent meetings). Prepare and submit documentation of training provided for parents and staff to Health and Mental Health Specialists and Human Resources. Assist in the recruitment of community and healthcare agencies / providers for participation on Health Services Advisory Committee. Attend appropriate community meetings for the purpose of networking and identifying appropriate resources for Head Start children and families. Monitor and maintain records of inventory to ensure that adequate first aid supplies, equipment and other related supplies (pull-ups are on hand at all times). Prepare and submit Monthly Reports: service delivery monitoring, inventory and site visits. NOTE: All medical / dental, disability and behavior concerns to be reported to the Disability / Mental health Manager immediately. Complies updated information on community resources. Recruit volunteers and in-kind contributions. Participate in the Annual Self-Assessment. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in special education, public health or related fields 1+ years of experience in a Social Services / Health / Special Education services A combination of Education and Head Start work experience directly related to Social Services and / or Health Special Education will be considered. Ergonomics : Sitting, bending, stooping, standing, 15% repetitive keyboard work, seeing, verbal communications, lift up to 25 pounds.
