Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician III for the Kiley Developmental Center located in Waukegan, Illinois to provide physical support with personal care services to individuals in a living or work area on an assigned unit on an assigned shift. Conducts individual and group programs. Verifies individual safety and protection through monitoring and supervision. Teaches and directs individuals in the maintenance of a clean, safe and secure environment. Serves in an advanced worker capacity providing assistance to lower-level staff on complex problems. Requires the ability to travel.

Essential Functions

* Provides oversight for the overall operation of the Home during shift.

* Provides support with personal activities of daily living tasks to individuals on an assigned unit on an assigned shift.

* Conducts individual and group programs.

* Verifies individual safety and protection through monitoring and supervision.

* Monitors to ensure a nurturing home environment that respects privacy and autonomy that promotes choice-making and independence, that involves individuals in the potation of their household that uses teachable moments and parallel talk when appropriate.

* Ensures proper meal/menu preparation and food handling guidelines are followed and that a formal and informal mealtime training is conducted.

* Performs limited housekeeping functions including spot moping, emptying trash and cleaning accidents.

* Attends and completes scheduled training as indicated by the Department of Human Services (DHS), the center and the resident unit.

* Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

* Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.

* Requires successful completion of an approved training program and one (1) year experience in, or applicable to the care, treatment and development of individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities.

Conditions of Employment

* Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.

* Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.

* Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

* Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

* Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

* Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
