#CA-SSThe role of the TRC therapist is to provide screening, crisis intervention, and short-term trauma treatment to TRC patients. Services can be in the hospital, community and in office. Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered and/or licensed as a mental health provider with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, or with the Board of Psychology prior to being hired, and maintain registration as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess a master's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, or other related field.
  • Experience working with victims of crime.
  • Minimum of one-year field placement internship in a mental health setting and experience working with children with histories of trauma and training in evidence-based protocols such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
  • Experience providing trauma-informed mental health care, including evidence-based treatment models for trauma.
  • Experience providing mental health treatment to children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Experience collaborating and/or providing community based or hospital based mental health services.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use DSM-5 (or subsequent versions of DSM).
  • Completion of CITI Basis course for Social and Behavioral Researchers and Staff within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of individual, child, and family development, human behavior, and the influence of culture and values on development and behavior as well as on clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of and skills to provide case management, individual, group, conjoint, family, and evidence-based treatments.
  • Knowledge of suicidal behavior, the ability to assess lethality, and the ability to develop appropriate treatment plan.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; verbal, written, and listening; Ability to work diplomatically with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with children and their caregivers.
  • Knowledge of child, elder abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements, and other significant legislation and laws regulating mental health practice, (e.g., Tarasoff, patient confidentiality, etc.) with the ability to make appropriate interventions based on law and policy.
  • Good writing, verbal, and planning skills to write clear and concise reports using applicable computer software.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize a variety of concurrent activities, set realistic goals and objectives, plan ahead and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Ability to conceptualize clinical situations and demonstrate application of theory in case management and psychotherapeutic responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of current treatment literature and its applicability to mental health therapy.
  • Ability to use clinical supervision to enhance professional growth and examine clinical work.
  • Ability to successfully manage conflict.
  • Ability to apply cultural competency standards to clinical care.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Skills, knowledge, and ability to support the policies and procedures of the CAARE Center and U.C. Davis Health System.

Department Overview The vision of the Department of Pediatrics is the healthiest future for all children and families, with a mission dedicated to creating a healthy future for all children through outstanding patient care, transformative research, innovative medical education and community-based advocacy. As part of this mission, the purpose of the CAARE Diagnostic and Treatment Center is to provide culturally responsive, trauma informed patient care (mental health services), teaching and research on behalf of abused/neglected and at-risk children. The CAARE Center specializes in treating childhood trauma, offering evidence-based treatment within a multidisciplinary setting that values staff wellness. Mental health services are provided to children ages 0 to 21 through various service contracts and grants across settings, including outpatient clinics, pediatric clinics, juvenile hall, and community settings.We acknowledge that our society carries within it historical and deep-rooted injustices and biases. This position will provide mental health services to children ages 0-21.The UCD Trauma Recovery Center is a collaboration between the CAARE Center, the UC Davis Health Wraparound Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP), and the UC Davis Health Violence Prevention Research Program (VPRP). The UCD-TRC will be co-located with the Wraparound program on UC Davis Health campus to provide a multidisciplinary team approach to comprehensive services for victims of crime ages 0-26 years old.POSITION INFORMATION
