Job Summary: The Plumbing Design Engineer will be responsible for designing efficient and compliant plumbing systems for a wide range of construction projects, including commercial, healthcare, education, and high-rise buildings. This role involves working closely with the design and project management teams, interpreting project requirements, and ensuring plumbing systems are designed to code and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Design: Develop and design plumbing systems (water, wastewater, stormwater, gas) based on project requirements and building codes. Prepare calculations, schematics, and specifications to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Project Documentation: Produce accurate design documents, including technical drawings, system layouts, and piping schematics. Prepare design reports, specifications, and equipment schedules.
- Code Compliance: Ensure all plumbing designs meet local, state, and federal building codes, as well as industry standards such as ASPE and other relevant regulations.
- Collaboration: Work with architects, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to integrate plumbing designs with overall project plans. Participate in design coordination meetings.
- Quality Assurance: Review and evaluate plumbing designs and specifications for quality, accuracy, and adherence to client requirements. Provide quality control support for plumbing documentation.
- Estimating & Budgeting: Contribute to project cost estimates for plumbing components, equipment, and systems. Provide input to ensure project costs align with budget goals.
- Site Inspections & Support: Conduct site visits as needed to assess project progress, troubleshoot issues, and ensure installation aligns with design intent. Provide technical support to field teams and respond to RFIs.
- Innovation & Sustainability: Explore and implement sustainable plumbing solutions, focusing on water conservation, energy efficiency, and green building practices.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in plumbing design engineering within the construction or MEP industry, ideally in commercial or institutional projects.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software. Strong knowledge of plumbing system design principles, calculations, and sizing.
- Code Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of plumbing and building codes, including ASPE, UPC, IPC, and other relevant standards.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in preparing designs, calculations, and technical reports.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and present designs to clients.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity in a fast-paced environment.
