Position Summary:
Sets up and operates spinning lathe to spin shaped articles from sheet or plate metal, using blueprints and knowledge of physical properties of metal: Bolts specified spinning chuck to headstock spindle and follow block to tailstock, using hand tools or power tools.
Essential Responsibilities:
The following essential functions represent the primary work performed; however, other responsibilities could be expected that are not detailed here but fall within the scope of this role.
- Clamps metal disk to chuck by turning handwheel that forces follow block against disk.
- Positions, holds, and moves long-handled compound lever tool against disk, using steady rest as fulcrum point, to apply required pressure to form disk over and into shape of spinning chuck.
- Apply varying amount of pressure and location of pressure on disk according to type of metal, shape of spinning chuck, speed of lathe, and temperature and thickness of metal disk.
- Replaces steady rest with bar tool attachment, turns handwheel to set bar tool and cut off excess metal from workpiece.
- Performs routine and minor maintenance on applicable spinning equipment.
- Needs change from day to day depending on requirement and include running manual and CNC lathes.
- Document actions by completing production and quality logs as required and directed.
- Always maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Comply with all company processes, procedures, quality directives and safety procedures.
- Must be aware of, and work to, established set-up and part per hour run times, and part quality requirements as established on work orders.
Minimum Skills, Abilities, and Requirements:
- Experience with manual spinning along with PNC/CNC Lathe spinning desirable
- Metal Fabrication background preferred
- Must be able to read Blueprint
- Ability to use inspection equipment to inspect parts
- Ability to read measurement equipment such as micrometer, caliper, eight gauges
- Self-starter, ability to learn quickly, and good with hands-on work
- Experience with manual lathe a plus
- High School diploma or equivalent
Work Environment, Physical, and Mental Demands: Incumbents in this role will primarily perform their work in a paint shop environment and interact with team members throughout the facility in production warehouse environments.
The paint shop general laborer will work with and around a variety of industrial warehouse equipment and vehicles, such as forklifts in an environment that includes exposure to loud noise levels, vibration, chemicals, dust, fumes, mechanical hazards, bright lights and hot or cold temperatures. While performing the duties of this position, incumbents are required to do all of some of the following, with or without accommodation:
- Attend to machinery (workstation) for long periods, up to an entire shift, managing the controls of the equipment in a safe and effective manner
- Use computer keyboard, desk top computer, calculator, and other production warehouse tools or controls
- Mentally focus on tasks and apply sound reasoning and judgement
- Review documents, monitors or displays with potentially small print
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, face shields, masks, gloves or other PPE required to operate equipment safely and effectively
- Move through the production warehouse facility on potentially uneven or slippery surface
- Respond to safety control noises or alarms such as fire alarm, forklifts horns, and machinery alerts
- Reach under, over, above or around machinery or other objects such as bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing to perform work
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment.
The typical workdays and hours for the organization vary depending on the role being performed with potential for extended hours, including weekends or holidays based on business needs.
This role will typically be expected to perform work Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 4:30pm onsite at the Shakopee facility.
This role is classified as full-time nonexempt (hourly) and incumbents will work a minimum of 40 hours in a work week. Work is expected to be delivered within established deadlines and quality standards within specific time periods. This is typically within a 40-hour work week. Overtime (working more than 40 hours in a work week) may be worked when approved or could be required if requested by a manager.
