Metallurgical Lab Technician - Harrison Steel Castings Co. Harrison Steel Castings Co. has an opening on first shift for a Lab Technician. This position runs metallurgical tests to assure metal is produced to the required specifications and quality standards are achieved. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares test samples, runs spectrometer analysis, and Leco Carbon analysis on steel and nodular iron test.
- Reports the results to the Melting Department so additions can be made and heats can be prepared.
- Calibrates, operates, and performs minor preventive maintenance on the spectrometer and the carbon determinator.
- Performs chemical analysis using the spectrometer and/or the carbon analyzer.
- Collects final chemical test samples from Foundry for each heat, then grinds, brushes, stamps heat number, cuts, and fine grinds the sample.
- Prepares keel black legs and other test coupons for testing or further heat treatment as directed by supervision.
- Prepares micro specimens and polishes them.
- Prepares samples for macro etching and etch
Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
