- Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
- Performs daily meter readings as scheduled by billing routes.
- Documents and reports questionable findings, such as leaks, uncertain connections, damaged meters, meters located on vacant lots, broken equipment, meters not listed in handhelds, occupied properties without a meter that are observed in the field.
- Maintains safe and clear conditions in the immediate area surrounding meters.
- Repairs or replaces meter lids and boxes.
- Paints and/or flag locations of meters.
- Follows proper usage and maintenance of meter reading equipment.
- Provides proper response to meter reading alarms and leak indicators.
- Ensures the cleanliness of any assigned vehicle, tool, or equipment.
- Assists with meter re-reads including hanging door tags for customer notifications.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements Education, Training, and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Prior relevant experience desirable.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
- Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
- Ability to be exposed up to eight (8) hours a day in elements including but not limited to, heat, cold, and rain, while continuously walking, bending, and standing.
- Must have sufficient physical strength, agility, and stamina to perform assigned tasks under adverse conditions.
- Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
- IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Requires walking most of the day.
- The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- The job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, and twisting, and on occasion crawling and reaching above shoulders.
- The job requires the completion of tasks that involves simple grasping, pushing, pulling, typing, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, and working in darkness.
- The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception, hearing, and speaking.
- The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
