Meter ReaderGENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESUnder general supervision of the Utilities Services Superintendent, the purpose of the position is to perform responsible meter services work. Employees in this classification perform at entry level and are responsible for reading meters, recording consumption and repairing meters. Objective is to support correct and timely billing of metered services by accurately and efficiently recording meter readings along a clearly designated work route. Although the employee works independently and is often physically removed from supervision, duties are performed within the framework of pre-established policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Installs and maintains meters; inspects plumbing, and wiring for correct installation and operation; installs and repairs cut-off valves.Repairs and rebuilds meters and registers; replaces registers and worn out parts; repairs leaks; maintains parts inventory records.Test meters for accuracy; review verification readings.Monitors consistency of readings and reports any deviation from usual consumption.Assists customers in identifying consumption problems and recommends corrective measures; addresses pressure issues.Distributes late notices on delinquent balances; collects funds for delinquent accounts; addresses billing issues.Connects and disconnects utility services.May assist maintenance crews, e.g., utility leak repairs, lawn care.Performs related duties as assigned.
