Work involves scheduling, overseeing, and coordinating the installation, relocation, repair, and reading of utility meters, revising work methods and procedures, and maintaining records to ensure accurate and timely service delivery.Position typically supervises employees and schedules day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency and productivity. Position requires a general understanding of the assigned function or business area. Supervises the daily activities of Water System Operators and other assigned personnel; determines daily routes for personnel and periodically reviews routes for reading efficiency; oversees and assists with the installation, relocation, and repair of water meters. Reviews work for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed.Supervises and assists with the installation, replacement, and repair of water lines and mains. Assists with developing and implementing procedures to expand and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the water accountability function; executes programs to recover or alleviate water losses.Monitors budget expenditures and prepares records, reports, and documents as requested to assist with the preparation of the annual budget. Monitors and maintains supply and equipment inventory; oversees inventory audits and coordinates equipment disposal; prepares purchase requisitions for approval.Enforces safety regulations with field staff; orders and distributes required safety equipment and clothing; exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks. Trains personnel in safety, maintenance, and operational procedures required by the city, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of data and documentation via specialized software, including but not limited to, meter reading data, comparison reports, work orders, production reports, meter exchange reports, and personnel forms.Adheres to all City and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.Maintains quality communication and interaction with all City personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive City image.Demonstrates behaviors that support the City's Vision and Values.Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city's obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesReviews and evaluates work methods and procedures and meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems.Assesses and monitors workload; identifies opportunities for improvement and implements changes.Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with staff to correct deficiencies; makes recommendations regarding discipline and termination.Pay and Bargaining StatusThis is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is within the blue collar bargaining unit covered by the City of Tamarac and Federation of Public Employees (FPE) collective bargaining agreement. This position is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac and FPE collective bargaining agreement.Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by two (2) years of directly related experience in water system operations and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.Required Certifications and LicensesMust possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities. Must possess a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Water Distribution System Operator Level II License, and within one (1) year of hire must complete Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and Trench Safety Training.NOTE: Job description, minimum qualifications, and the standards required to perform the essential functions are detailed in the official job description.
