Keeps meter repair parts inventory and all records pertaining to repair and test records; ability to provide needed information to customers; replaces broken meter boxes and lids; re-reads meters, turns water on and off. Pumps large meters and calls in readings. Repairs and replaces touch pads on pit meters. Works pre-bills when required. Check leaks in boxes and replaces gaskets if required; install, repair, test I-tron system and meters; verify all meter functions. Communicates repairs required to meters to Customer Service, Water Department and provides record of calls. Drives a City vehicle.Other Job Functions: Performs other duties as required. Minimum Essential QualificationsKnowledge: Knowledge of standard methods, materials, and equipment used in repairing small mechanical devices. Knowledge or experience in record keeping.Skills/Abilities: Ability to diagnose mechanical defects in small mechanisms; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Skill in the use of various tools such as pumps, drills, small and large meter tester, automatic meter reading devices, meter box keys, hack saws, and bolt cutters. Must be able to correctly read meters, operate a 2-way radio and have ability to learn new technology in installing automated meters.Physical Requirements: Constantly requires an applicant to drive, see, squat, stand, stoop, type, write by hand and twist of the body. Frequently requires applicant to pull/push objects weighing up to 100 lbs. and carries objects weighing up to 100 lbs.Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent. One year experience in the repair of small machines and mechanical devices or related work. Background in customer service and meter repair preferred. OtherMust possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. CDL license required within 6 months of employment. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
