Install and maintain streetlights. Troubleshoot and maintain single phase services.Please note, BED is looking to hire one Meter Technician. Applications for both Meter Technician A and Meter Technician will be considered to fill this opening.Union Affiliation: International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)Pay Grade 11: $26.58 - $43.57 Hourly Essential Job Functions Conduct voltage and current checksMake safe repairs to Department owned electrical equipment.Maintain, repair and/or replace street and lease lights that are outside of the primary voltage work zone.Install, maintain, repair, and replace BED's EV charging equipment.Activate, discontinue and/or restore service to customers.Collect delinquent payments from customers.Respond to calls for assistance from the Burlington Fire Department.Make critical first responder operating decisions during system emergencies (e.g., fallen energized powerlines).Assist BED's Technicians and Line Crews in making distribution system repairs.Notify the appropriate BED personnel of unsafe customer equipment and conditions.Program, install, inspect, test, maintain and repair BED's AMI, non-AMI, self-contained and current rated meters, instrument transformers, cell relays, range extenders and other associated equipment.Accurately complete applicable paperwork (e.g., material sheets, work requests, time sheets, system disturbance reports, etc.).Investigate, troubleshoot, and rectify any AMI meter events and exception reports(e.g., meter tampering, voltage problems, etc.)Properly operate a bucket truck and perform bucket truck rescue.Advise customers on electrical service matters.Install, maintain, replace, and repair basic single-phase services that are outside the primary voltage work zone.Install new secondary and primary metering up to and including13.8KV.Perform meter investigations for billing control and customer complaints.Install graphic voltmeters and check for loose meter and service connections at customer locations.Read non-AMI meters and follow-up on meter installations that need verification.Troubleshoot AMI communication issues.Remove meter channels for siding jobs.Operate a variety of electrical test and monitoring equipment.Responsible for recording pertinent data for meter records and instrument transformer records. Also complete all records pertaining to meter data and workorders.Re-inventory BED's overhead and underground distribution plant and other utility attachments, via pictures and field-collected data.Renumber poles as needed.Use and maintain any software system pertaining to BED's metering operations to include but not limited to the Field Collection System (FCS) Open Way tools, Watt Net and Field Deployment Manger (FDM).Perform daily operation and troubleshooting of metering related hand-held devices and software applications.Works with software and technology vendors to implement, troubleshoot, resolve issues, and maintain technology used in support of metering operations.Non-Essential Job Functions:Perform other duties as required. Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.A high school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of three (3) years electrical experience.Satisfactory completion of a recognized apprentice electrician's program required.Must possess a State of Vermont Journey Level Electricians license.Wearing of safety equipment will be required (e.g., safety glasses, hard hat, rubber gloves, harness, etc.).Read and interpret electrical schematic and wire circuit diagrams pertaining to single and three phase applications.Must have a working knowledge of metering test equipment.Must have a working knowledge of primary and secondary metering circuits and connections.Must be able to work as part of a team.Experience with computers and spreadsheets are required.Ability to work with software and hardware vendors is required.Must possess current CPR and First Aid certification or have the ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.Must possess a working knowledge of the NESC, NEC, BED metering and construction standards, safety rules and generally accepted electric metering practices.Must possess good communication skill and an ability to interact with co-workers and the public.Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Vermont Driver's License within three (3) months of date of hire.Ability to work in and around energized, high voltage equipment in accordance with all applicable safety rules.Ability to work in confined spaces.Must be able to work in high places.Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.Ability to understand and comply with BED and/or City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.Ability to work overtime as needed consistent with the provisions of the BED/IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement.
