The Metering Engineer will report to the Director of Construction. This position leads all activities related to design, implementation, and testing for ERCOT EPS metering facilities in WETT's system as well as compliance with ERCOT requirements regarding metering facilities. The Metering Engineer will be responsible for participating in ERCOT's Metering Working Group on WETT's behalf, designing new EPS metering installations, coordinating metering requirements with third-party customers, equipment selection, and oversight of final site certifications.Responsibilities
- Responsible for generating EPS Design Proposals promptly and obtaining ERCOT final approval.
- Selection and verification of equipment requirements for each metering facility according to ERCOT requirements for accuracy.
- Knowledge and capabilities to program revenue meters from industry accepted manufacturers (SEL, TransData, etc), according to ERCOT requirements and telecommunication needs.
- Thorough knowledge of ERCOT Nodal Protocols related to EPS metering points as well as SMOG (Settlement Metering Operating Guide).
- Ensure compliance with required maintenance activities as it relates to EPS metering facilities.
- Support ERCOT audits on metering facilities.
- Support ERCOT Metering Working Group (MWG) efforts and maintain compliance with ERCOT protocols regarding EPS metering facilities.
- Evaluate new technologies and technological developments in the industry and assess the potential applications of innovative solutions to WETT to reduce project and operating costs and achieve corporate goals regarding safety and environmental protection.
Experience and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering preferred. Other qualifications will be considered based on experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in metering activities as it relates to an electrical utility.
- Experience in the conceptual design of high-voltage metering schemes. Preference given to experience and knowledge of SEL meters, including programming.
- Thorough knowledge of metering systems.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of telecommunication protocols, specifically serial and TCP/IP systems.
- Experience in analyzing metering data, troubleshooting, and implementing corrective measures for metering facilities.
- Field experience and competency working around high voltage equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Physical capabilities to perform normal field duties safely.
- Ability to work independently or as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability and willingness to travel to system locations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
