Job Description:

The University of Virginia is seeking a Metering Technician working within the Energy and Utilities team of Facilities Management. The University of Virginia at Charlottesville has over 18 million gross square feet of learning, research, residential, and support space across a geographically dispersed 1175 acres. Facilities Management is comprised of 1200 skilled and talented individuals who are dedicated to service excellence. We are responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVa's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for University-owned and leased properties.

The Energy and Utilities team is responsible for energy generation and distribution, and operation, maintenance, and renewal of the utilities infrastructure, with a strategic focus on safety, sustainability, and stewardship. Our mission is to provide a comfortable and safe environment for healing, research, and education.

The Metering Technician will work to enable organizational success, working through complex and rewarding near- and long-term goals. The University is built on a district energy model, with one main heat plant, three combined heating/cooling plants, nine chiller plants, hundreds of miles of (steam, hot water, chilled water, potable water, sanitary, and stormwater) distribution, and an internal medium voltage electrical distribution grid anchored by three 35kV to 13kV substations.

The role will perform diagnostics, maintenance, testing, calibration, configuration, installation and repair of electronic and electro-mechanical meters and associated devices per manufacturers' procedures and recommendations, in a commercial or industrial setting. They repair meter problems as identified by data analysis and field investigation. Meter Technicians initially focus on one utility service such as high-pressure steam, medium and high voltage electric service, or plumbing and piping distribution systems. They work autonomously but in a team environment with other technicians and contractors. Supervisors provide direction on priorities and new meter installations. Meter Technicians provide reliable and accurate utilities metering and accounting/billing data at University facilities by reading meters, entering data, and installing, troubleshooting, configuring, and repairing specific types of meters, and by performing basic review and analysis. Meter Technicians work with high-energy systems and so ensure safety is an absolute priority.

Responsibilities:

* Perform diagnostics, maintenance, testing, configuration, calibration, and repair of meters and associated devices and networked communications equipment.

* Install new meters or update current equipment in a team and under direction from supervisor or senior technicians.

* Complete monthly meter data collection and entry.

* Perform basic data review and analysis on acquired data.

* Maintain adequate stock of materials necessary for meter maintenance.

* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Four years of experience in a mechanical trade or technical industry.

Licensure: Journeyman level trades license or Certified Control Systems Technician. Associate's degree in a related technical field may be considered in lieu of license/certification.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00 per hour ($54,080 - $66,560 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

This position may be exposed to electric current while working on electronic equipment, exposed to extreme temperatures in steam tunnels and required to stand on different surfaces.
