Job DescriptionSummary:Perform a wide variety of duties to support the Metrology functions of the department. Program, measure, and troubleshoot current and new validation components. Administrate measurement equipment on site through equipment record and calibration databases. Provides in-depth technical and procedural advice for repair, calibration, and modification of a wide variety of complex precision measurement equipment utilized for assigned programs. Support any additional quality engineering activities as assigned.Duties & Responsibilities:
- Take and record part measurements and conditions.
- Operate metrology laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM), vision inspections systems, calipers, micrometers, and other general measurement equipment that receives and measures products of various sizes and geometric orientations, for new product launch, support in investigation of Customer issues, and as needed for improvements of the manufacturing process.
- Create programs on CMM for components.
- Set up, test, calibrate, analyze, repair, troubleshoot and maintain test and measurement equipment in accordance with established company procedures.
- Establish calibration intervals based on internal/external data and manufacturer recommendations.
- Collect, compile, analyze, report, transmit and store measurement data as required.
- Maintain accurate and orderly files of measurement data and work requests.
- Assist in first piece layouts and final inspections.
- Update calibration and asset tracking databases.
- Assist and advise in preparation of calibration and maintenance procedures (work instructions).
- Maintains calibration program of standard measurement tools (calipers, tape measures, part-specific checking aids), tracking and ensuring current valid status, and manages distribution of measurement tools to the Production floor, including ordering or securing measurement tools as needed to support. Able to instruct others in their appropriate usage and care.
- Support company continuous improvement initiatives.
- Reads and understands prints, including conventional product characteristics, orientation of assemblies consisting of multiple components, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Able to instruct or explain to others requirements as specified by prints.
- Other duties, tasks or projects as assigned in support of problem solving, Quality and Continuous improvement activities.
- At all times observes all safety requirements of the facility and conducts oneself with professionalism in alignment with the ITW Core Values, self-driven work ethic and ability to work independently and with Engineering, Quality, and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred.
- CMM-Operating software PCDMIS experience preferred but not required.
- Strong Knowledge of prints and Engineering Drawing required.
- Strong Knowledge of GD&T required.
- Use of laboratory measuring tools such as micrometers, height gages, etc.
- Knowledge of injection molding processes is preferred but not required.
- Operating Skills in the use of Microsoft Suite Programs
- Strong communication skills; including written, verbal and listening skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and multi-tasking ability.
- Ability to provide precise, accurate and repeatable calibration data.
- Statistical data experience preferred.
- Previous working experience and knowledge within quality manufacturing.
- Previous training and knowledge on measurement equipment standards and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
