Overview

The Senior Manager, Vivarium Facility and Operations will be responsible for the overall program of barrier operations and management to ensure that animal care and housing are provided in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, PHS Policy, AAALAC accreditation standards, DEA regulations and CMRI policies and procedures. The Senior Manager oversees and manages the daily activities of the CMRI barrier animal facility to include all aspects of the barrier facility including husbandry, sanitation, animal care, animal procurement, animal biosecurity, facility operations, research support and physical plant. Develops and implements barrier facility procedures and policies. Interfaces with investigators and researchers to troubleshoot and resolve problems related to husbandry, facility, and animal procurement. Facilitates research activities of research personnel by providing routine orientation for new users of the facility and assisting other users with services or information. Schedules and prioritizes workload of ARC staff. Inspects the barrier facilities and animal environments in ARC to ensure that they meet acceptable standards. Provides barrier animal care/husbandry expertise and technical guidance. Ensures all departmental equipment is maintained in good working conditions and that ARC barrier facilities are maintained in a clean and orderly conditions. Promotes high standards of animal welfare and ensures that any veterinary or potential welfare issues are addressed in an expedited and professional manner.

Responsibilities

+ Perform administrative duties related to barrier operations and research support within assigned area of responsibility including but not limited to:

+ Manages the daily program operation of barrier facility.

+ Supports all aspects of maintaining barrier animal facility program in compliance with PHS Policy, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, AAALAC International and all local, state, and federal requirements.

Qualifications

+ Associate's Degree and 7 or more years experience Must have 8 years of rodent barrier lead management experience with a solid understanding of regulations, rodent barrier program operation and containment. Rodent barrier husbandry , specific pathogen free rodent handling, barrier health standards, genetically altered mouse breeding colonies, research conducted with hazardous agents and barrier research processes.

+ Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level Required Upon Hire

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $39.95/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Childrens Mercy locations and may not work from home.
