Under direct supervision, provides therapeutic services, particularly as a specialist for the Adult and Child & Adolescent outpatient services of the South Strand/Myrtle Beach Satellite Office for Waccamaw Center for Mental Health in the Horry County area. Provides counseling and case management dealing with situations encompassing interpersonal, health and psychosocial factors. Staff will act as the team leader for the South Strand/Myrtle Beach Clinic.
Prior leadership skills and experience being a team leader overseeing, providing direction and guidance to team members in a mental health setting is required to be considered for this position. Must show this requirement on resume and supplemental questions.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
This position performs advanced and diversified counseling and case management functions for individuals with behavior and mental health issues. Develops and implements treatment plans, modifying them according to behavioral and emotional changes and needs of clients. Guides clients in the development of skills or strategies toward achieving and maintaining good mental health.
Provides therapy, emergency services and case management services to persons experiencing emotional disturbances, to include assessments, crisis intervention, individual, group and family therapy, patient and family education. The expectation is that the employee will provide counseling services to clients of WCMH South Strand/Myrtle Beach on a full-time basis, the equivalent of 37. 5 hours a week, Monday through Friday, maintaining an average bill time of direct services hours to 607.5 annualized hours/50.63 monthly.
As a team leader for the WCMH South Strand/Myrtle Beach Clinic, staff member is in charge in the absence of the Clinic Director. Assisting with training new clinical and non-clinical staff members, providing guidance to seasoned staff members, leading the clinical staff meetings, assisting with management of PMA appointments and providing additional supervision to intake staff members.
Provides advanced counseling in individual or group sessions to assist clients in dealing with mental illness and/or or other difficulties in individual, family, vocational, social or other life crisis.
Counsels or aids family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with or supporting the client. Provides supplementary counseling services for individuals undergoing intensive psychiatric treatment elsewhere in a mental health program.
Assists in the formulation and development of patient treatment plans and programs.
Advises and directs supporting or team member counselors in the performance of their duties.
Provides administrative and clinical supervision and leadership for the program.
Maintains documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, SCDMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF Standards.
Will be responsible in providing a variety of coordination and consultation services with school, community agencies and DMH staff.
Educates the community through workshops and presentations in regard to children and mental health issues.
Through knowledge of the range and scope of services provided in a comprehensive mental health program serving adults, children and their families and the unique treatment needs of this special population. Practical therapeutic knowledge of principles, methods, counseling practices and procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.
Ability to listen, understand and communicate information and ideas so that other will understand. Must be able to integrate and coordinate services with those of other disciplines.
This position is required to participate in on-going in-service training and other educations opportunities in order to maintain and/or acquire necessary skills.
Knowledge of psychopathology, family dynamics and individual, family and group psychotherapy is required.
Employee is self-directed and motivated functioning independently and exercising good clinical judgement at all times.
This position is evaluated annually under the SCDMH EPMS (Employee Performance Management System).
Some travel may be required, and state vehicle will be provided.
General walking, standing, bending and able to lift up to 25 pounds is required.
Perform other duties as required by Supervisor or Executive Director.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in Spanish or other languages preferred.

State Minimum Requirements: A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or related field and professional experience in mental health, human services or social services is required. In addition, must show prior team leadership experience in a mental health setting.
Must be able to meet SCDMH Credentialing Requirements. Graduate level coursework including the following courses must be satisfied and attaching a copy of unofficial graduate transcript is required:

Clinical Assessment - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) or other related assessment course
Ethics Course - related to the medical profession
