Position Summary
The Microbiology Technician will be responsible for conducting microbiological tests and analyses to ensure the safety and quality of products and materials. The technician will perform routine and specialized laboratory procedures, maintain laboratory equipment, and support quality assurance initiatives in compliance with industry standards and regulations. Maintain a clean work environment, equipment, disposal of consumables and cleaning of media/testing glassware.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Preparation and Analysis
- Prepare and process samples for microbiological testing, including environmental samples, raw materials, and finished products.
- Conduct microbiological tests, including bacterial counts, pathogen detection, and sterility testing, following established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Laboratory Maintenance
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.
- Calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
Documentation and Reporting
- Accurately document all laboratory results, observations, and procedures in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and company policies.
- Prepare and submit reports on test results, including deviations and out-of-specification (OOS) findings.
Quality Control and Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality assurance standards, including but not limited to ISO 17025, FDA, and other relevant regulations.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory quality systems, including participation in audits, inspections, and proficiency testing programs.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to support laboratory operations and troubleshoot issues.
- Participate in training new personnel on laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development of new methods and procedures.
- Stay current with advancements in microbiological testing techniques and industry regulations.
Qualifications
Education
- Associate's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in microbiology or a related field.
- Familiarity with microbiological testing methods and laboratory equipment.
Skills
- Strong understanding of microbiological principles and practices.
- Proficient in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Working Conditions
