Job Description:
GZA GeoEnvironmental of New York (GZA) is seeking a Mid-Level Civil Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to support our Civil Engineering and Solid Waste Team in our Buffalo, New York office. The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced civil engineering consulting professional with civil engineering design skills, hydrology and hydraulics analytical skills, technical analysis skills, and construction phase engineering experience. As a mid-level Civil Engineer, you will work as part of a project team of dedicated staff of diverse professionals under the guidance of our Principal Engineers. Together, we plan, design, permit, and support construction of a variety of projects including solid waste management facilities, electric utilities, renewable energy civil site design, and stormwater infrastructure. Our close-knit culture and multidisciplinary environment here at GZA will allow you to grow professionally. You will assist a team of civil design (CAD) engineers and drafters, and work with other regional GZA offices in New York and New England states. Our success relies on this collaborative environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Working with GZA's Solid Waste, Energy, Environmental, and Water Resources teams in a collaborative manner to successfully complete projects
  • Planning and design support for stormwater management
  • Conducting/reviewing civil and hydrologic/hydraulic engineering technical analyses/calculations
  • Development of permit-level site plans, stormwater management design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater pollution plans (SWPPPs), and stormwater drainage reports
  • Development of design drawings and technical specifications
  • Providing technical input for permit application packages
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with clients and team members
  • Preparing reports with Principal guidance and review
  • Overseeing and documenting civil construction projects
  • Project management duties including oversight of project team, preparation of schedules and budget tracking and developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • NY Professional Engineer's License or ability to obtain within 1 to 2 years, out of state PE's with ability to transfer to NY will be considered
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering required (Masters of Science degree preferred)
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a professional attitude and ability to work well with other professionals and contractors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise letters, memoranda, technical reports, proposals, and figures
  • Experience in site development, grading, stormwater design, erosion & sediment control
  • Responsive attitude when interacting with staff, peers, management and clients
  • Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of and experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software preferred, including: HECHMS, HECRAS, FLO2D, HydroCAD, HydraFlow, StormCAD, ICPR4, and/or CulvertMaster
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally, infrequently for overnight stays
  • OSHA 10-hour Construction training is a plus
