- To provide effective foundational content area instruction to children of varying developmental and learning levels in one or more subject areas which may include language arts, math, science, social studies, arts and humanities, health and social skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, mathematics, and basic subject matter specified in PA state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Provide an education program in a self-contained or content specialized elementary school classroom that will develop children physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.
- Participate and engage in meaningful professional development activities as may be required by law to maintain appropriate certification and competency, or as may be directed by the District or building principal.
- Monitor the progress of each student through the collection, organization and interpretation of appropriate learning data, and intervene and remediate as necessary to ensure maximum student growth and/or achievement.
- Develop differentiated lesson plans and activities that provides individualized instruction based on the District curriculum, PA standards and evidence-based practices for student engagement and learning.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Maintain professional, ongoing communication with parents / guardians relating to student educational, developmental and social progress.
- Collaborates and cooperates with other professional staff members and administrators in facilitating the delivery of education programs such as encore, ESL, remedial and gifted programs.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Work with grade and content level teams, as directed, to plan cooperatively for curriculum fidelity and instructional improvement.
- Establish, communicate, maintain, and consistently apply an effective classroom management plan to increase student engagement, efficiently use the available instructional time, and minimize student disruption of the learning environment.
- Perform all necessary tasks to ensure a safe educational classroom environment.
- Demonstrate professionalism in both service to students and to the profession, and comply with the Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators and other legal standards and / or regulations related to professional conduct both in and out of school.
