Mid-level Software Engineer - Abstractive HealthCompany Background: Abstractive Health helps doctors retrieve external medical records and creates an AI automated summary using generative AI. Doctors are overwhelmed by documentation and have just 3 minutes on average to review the patient chart. We solve this problem by making the cliff notes for healthcare so doctors can focus more of their time on patient care. Our company was borne through our research with Weill Cornell Medicine where we demonstrated the capability a narrative computer-generated summary would provide for physicians. We are a VC funded startup with customers and launching a pilot at NewYork Presbyterian Emergency Department.Job Start Date: Immediately. You will be expected to start on-site within 3 weeks of being offered the role.Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000 with stock options equity.Job Location: Grand Central Tech Residency, 335 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10017.Job Description: As a software engineer, you will be building our key product features. You will work directly with the tech team on the following:
  • Front end app development (React, Javascript, Redux)
  • Back end app development (Python)
  • Integrating UI components with APIs and databases
  • AWS infrastructure including machine learning deployment pipelines
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) integration and building FHIR APIs
  • Debug errors, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine performance optimizations
  • Write high-quality, scalable, and reusable code
We are currently integrated with 9 EHR system and Carequality HIE to pull the complete longitudinal prior medical history of the patient. A patient record has on average 100,000 words; we have a proprietary method for summarizing all of these words. You will work alongside us in improving our SMART on FHIR software application while maintaining best practices for HIPAA and SOC-2 compliance.Job Benefits: We are one of the most innovative companies for generative AI and healthcare.   • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or similar degree program
  • 2+ years of industry experience as a software engineer
  • Very strong familiarity with Python, JavaScript, React, and SQL
  • Ability to mentor software engineers
While the following skills are not required for the job, you should emphasize them in your application if you possess them:
  • Familiarity with healthcare APIs including SMART on FHIR and HL7
  • Natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs)
