Job Summary:The Middle School Art Teacher will be responsible for providing a dynamic and creative art education to students in grades 5-8. The teacher will design and implement lesson plans that align with the school's curriculum and state standards, fostering an appreciation for the visual arts while developing students' technical skills and creativity. The teacher will also create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages self-expression and critical thinking.Key Responsibilities:
- Lesson Planning and Instruction:
- Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that meet academic standards and the school's curriculum goals.
- Teach a variety of art techniques and mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media.
- Integrate art history and cultural contexts into lessons to enhance students' understanding of the visual arts.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that fosters creativity, respect, and collaboration.
- Create an inclusive environment where all students feel welcome and accepted.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and productive learning space.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to integrate art across the curriculum and participate in interdisciplinary projects.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and participate in school-wide initiatives.
- Participate in planning and coaching sessions with your curriculum leader.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and upcoming art events.
- Extracurricular and Community Engagement:
- Organize and participate in art exhibitions, contests, and other school-wide art-related events.
- Encourage student involvement in community art projects and local art events.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
- State teaching certification in Art Education (preferred).
- Experience:
- Previous teaching experience, particularly at the middle school level (preferred).
- Proficiency in a variety of art forms and techniques.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Familiarity with current educational technology and digital art tools.

Work Environment:
- Full-time position within a supportive and collaborative educational community.
- SCCS does not have a dedicated art room at this time so the art teacher will push into teachers' classrooms for art education.
