Job Description:
The Charter Middle School for Law and Social Justice provides students with a comprehensive middle school education and lays the academic and social groundwork for future success in high school, college, and careers. Using a theme of law and social justice, the School engages, inspires, and empowers students, equipping them with the skills necessary to excel academically and socially. The School fosters a strong foundation for its students, preparing them for high school with mentoring opportunities from older students, professionals, and partnerships with institutions of higher learning.   • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • NYS Certification in a related field
  • At least three years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Experience with educational technology (iPads, SMARTBoard, Student Laptop)
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience working with Middle School students
  • Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Academic Counseling: Provide direct individual and group academic counseling to students.
  • Advisory: Lead and support teachers and students on our advisory SEL program.
  • Scheduling and Programs: Create and modify student schedules to be in compliance with NYS law and LSJ requirements and align with student interests and learning profiles.*
  • Problem-Solving Assistance: Help students address and resolve academic, personal/social, and career-related issues.
  • Performance Evaluation: Utilize both objective data and anecdotal information to assess student performance.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain up-to-date student records using the school's student information system.
  • Resource Referral: Guide students and individuals to appropriate resources, including specialized summer and enrichment programs.
  • Data Tracking: Monitor and track academic data, including student pass rates and attendance.
  • Standardized Testing: Prepare lists of students taking the state exams, disseminate results to families, and manage standardized testing logistics.
  • Transcript Management: Regularly update, create, and review student transcripts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Summer School Coordination: Support the organization of Summer School programs and communicate relevant information to families.
  • Transfer Student Support: Assist transfer students in transitioning to the school, ensuring prior records are on file and previous credits are entered into the student information system.
  • Academic Support Placement: Collaborate with Special Education staff to place academically struggling students in support programs.
  • Orientation Meetings: Conduct orientation sessions to inform students about scheduling and graduation requirements.
  • Family Meetings: Meet with families to provide information about academic programming and requirements.
  • Teacher and Staff Training: Assist in providing professional development mandated reporting and other related social emotional learning topics.
