We seek someone eager to support students in attaining their educational and behavioral goals. This person should be compassionate, caring, and have strong relationship-building skills. WHO WE ARE The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence (BASSE) is a free public charter school that will grow to serve grades 6 through 12 in Sussex County, Delaware. Opening in the fall of 2024 with grades 6, 7, and 8, BASSE aims to provide a personalized academic experience focusing on service-learning and leadership opportunities for our students and staff. Inspired by our school's namesake, Bryan Stevenson, a prolific social justice activist and lawyer from Milton, Delaware, the BASSE community has dedicated its mission to proximity. We will create pathways for our students, families, and communities by getting close to those facing challenges and partnering with them to create solutions. Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Head of School and direction of the Classroom Teachers, the Paraeducator will:
  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities by providing individualized support to students or small groups.
  • Reinforce learning concepts and provide additional practice opportunities for students under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and techniques to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor student behavior and intervene as necessary to address disruptive behavior or support students in developing appropriate social skills.
  • Provide encouragement, positive reinforcement, and modeling of appropriate behaviors to help students succeed academically and socially.
  • Assist with administering assessments, quizzes, and tests, as well as monitoring student progress on assignments and activities.
  • Collect data on student performance and behavior to support data-driven decision-making and intervention planning.
  • Document student progress and communicate observations to classroom teachers and other members of the instructional team.
  • Assist students with disabilities or special needs with activities as outlined in their individualized education plans (IEPs) or support plans.
  • Provide physical assistance, including lifting, transferring, and positioning students with mobility impairments or other physical challenges.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students by monitoring their physical environment and providing assistance in emergency situations.
  • Assist students in using technology tools and educational materials, including computers, tablets, assistive technology devices, and adaptive equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other members of the instructional team to provide updates on student progress and needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement instructional strategies, accommodations, and modifications to support student learning and success.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and school staff to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills in areas such as instructional support, behavior management, and disability awareness.
  • Stay informed about best practices, regulations, and policies related to paraeducator roles and responsibilities in education settings.
  • Seek feedback from supervisors and colleagues to continuously improve performance and effectiveness in supporting student learning and development.
  • Other duties as assigned
This is an approximately 40-hours per week, 10-month role. A criminal background check and TB test are required. Required and Desired Attributes
