Middle School Ski & Snowboard Program Chaperone

Under the guidance of the Programs and Events Manager and Head Chaperone, the Program Instructor (Chaperone) will provide direct supervision to all students enrolled in the Middle School Ski and Snowboard Program. Students will travel to and from the Peabody and Sanborn Middle Schools in Concord, MA to Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA. Buses depart from the Peabody and Sanborn Middle Schools at 1:30pm and return at 6:30pm.

Work Schedule: Wednesday afternoons from 12:30pm to 6:30pm on January 8, 15, 22, 29, and February 5, & 12.

Pay range starts at $20 - $35/hour; starting pay rate based on qualifications.

Appointment of the final candidate will be contingent upon the results of pre-placement conditions including CORI and SORI checks. Costs of these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Programs and Events Manager and Head Chaperone, the Program Instructor (Chaperone) will provide direct supervision to all students enrolled in the Middle School Ski and Snowboard Program. Students will travel to and from the Peabody and Sanborn Middle Schools in Concord, MA to Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA. Buses depart from the Peabody and Sanborn Middle Schools at 1:30pm and return at 6:30pm

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.

* Ensure all participants are accounted for and relay to the Head Chaperone any absences and number of students on bus.

* Establish a positive and friendly relationship with participants, other chaperones, parents/guardians, bus drivers, and Wachusett staff.

* Ensure a safe and fun experience for participants; supervise participants, assist with injuries/accidents.

* Assist participants with equipment, including loading and uploading bus, helping participants put on equipment, and assisting with rental equipment.

* Maintain a high level of professionalism and organization, as well as being accessible at all times.

* Assist Head Chaperone in delivering students to lessons, rentals, coordinated meeting area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

* Ability to ensure program policies, as well as school rules and policies, are enforced.

* Ability to relate to middle school age youth in a positive and helpful manner.

* Ability to respond effectively to unusual situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must be dependable and responsible.

* Must be able to maintain good order and discipline.

* Must be organized and timely.

* Experience working with children preferred.

* Skiing and/or snowboarding experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Must be 18 years of age or older.

* Must agree to and pass a CORI and SORI Background Check, the cost of which will be borne by the Town.

* Must be available to attend all program dates (listed above).

* A valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.

* Successfully complete all town required pre-employment screenings.

* Must attend required chaperone meeting in December and complete an on-line Concussion Training prior to the start of the program.

Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk and hear. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required; must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in an atypical environment subject to moderate variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc. Employee is frequently exposed to variable outdoor weather conditions.
