Job Description:

Midland School, a distinctive co-educational boarding school for grades 9-12, is located on a 2,860-acre ranch at the edge of the Los Padres National Forest. Midland has been a leader of place-based and experiential college preparatory education since 1932. Everything we do—from our cell-phone-free campus, to the rigorous place-based courses we choose to teach, to our student-led jobs program, and our 10-acre farm— is anchored in an intentional competency-based curriculum that aims to develop the next generation of responsible, compassionate, and resilient young leaders and stewards.

Our campus is filled with passionate educators with diverse interests and backgrounds who believe in the power of living, learning, and working alongside one another in community. As Dean of Residential Life, you would be working directly with 80+ students and 20+ passionate educators with diverse interests and backgrounds.

  • Boarding school setting
  • Grades 9 to 12 students
  • Full time Aug-June administrator work calendar
  • Salary range $58,000 - 80,000* plus housing on-campus
  • The position starts early August 2025 for the 2025-2026 academic year
  • *Salary depends on relevant experience. Benefits include retirement, medical, life/ADD, and disability, on-campus housing and meals.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead & manage day-to-day residential & student life at Midland
  • Oversee & support senior leaders and prefects
  • Serve on the administrative team & student support team
  • Work collaboratively to align residential life programs with our competency-based curricula
  • Teach 1-2 classes (or equivalent)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Leadership experience in adolescent residential communities
  • Highly organized and able to effectively manage time
  • Enthusiasm for working with teenagers
  • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills
  • Sense of humor and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to pass criminal background & driving tests
  • Health clearance for TB screening

Additional Desired Experience:

  • Related academic degrees and certifications
  • Co-curricular program design experience
  • Experience with restorative justice practices in schools
  • Experience working in a mission-focused environment with adolescents and their families

The closing date for this position is December 31, 2024. The start date is mid August 2025.
