Position Overview - Military Maintenance Engineer
The Department of Military Affairs is looking to hire a Military Maintenance Engineer located out of the Sparta Training Site and Armory. This position under general direction of the Deputy Director/CFMO, supervises the maintenance staff. This position is accountable for the maintenance of the building and grounds, repair, and the operation of electronic target systems, with responsibility for allocation of supplies, accountability of state and federal property within confines of the training area. Will ensure the safety and compatibility of personnel, buildings, and equipment. Ensure environmental plans are followed and construction thereof that complement the training area, roadways, and adjacent land use. The Department of Military Affairs works with the members of the Illinois Air and Army National Guard. We welcome all interested applicants to apply.
Essential Functions
* Supervises and directs the production of the laborer and building and grounds maintenance personnel as well as their assigned projects, functions, and work assignments within their daily operations.
* Supervises, inspects, and maintains a full preventative maintenance program for the facility including, but not limited to, HVAC systems, electronic targeting systems, plumbing and electrical systems, as well as all assigned tools and equipment.
* Performs a variety of skilled building preventative maintenance tasks to doors, windows, roofs, and other building components, performs minor plumbing repairs.
* Prepares and submits requisitions for supplies and equipment.
* Reviews and makes recommendations to the Deputy Director/CFMO on repair and maintenance work to be performed by outside vendors.
* Performs additional duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably associated within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of 4 years of high school.
* Requires 1 year experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks in the maintenance of buildings and associated grounds.
* Requires 1 year experience in the repair and operation of electrical systems.
* Requires knowledge of mechanical building trades, maintenance materials, and construction trades.
* Requires skill in the use of tools and the ability to perform semi-skilled manual work.
* Requires knowledge and minimum of 1 year experience in the operation of heavy equipment to include but not limited to: tractors, mowers, scoop loader, forklift, backhoe, and snowplow.
* Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions including blueprints and other diagrams.
Preferred Qualifications
* Prefers common understanding and basic experience using elementary computer software.
* Prefers the ability to instruct and direct unskilled workers.
* Prefers the ability to use power tools, operate heavy equipment and perform semi-skilled manual work in a safe manner.
Employment Conditions
1. Requires active or retired (20 years) membership in the Illinois National Guard or retired (minimum 20 years) US Armed forces, if last duty assignment was with the Illinois National Guard.
2. Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) prior to hire or transfer.
3. Requires basic computer proficiency with Microsoft products.
4. Requires the ability to lift and carry heavy boxes, supplies, furniture, and equipment more than 80 lbs.
5. Requires being on feet for long periods of time; the ability to climb stairs and ladders.
6. Requires being on hands and knees for extended periods of time.
7. Requires the ability to withstand extreme temperature changes.
8. Requires exposure to a variety of chemical cleaning agents.
9. Requires a valid driver's license in the appropriate classification as required by law.
