Millwright
Bettis Contractors is seeking Millwrights of all levels of experience. This position will be based primarily working out of the immediate Topeka, KS area with the possibility of some occasional regional travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Millwrights are primarily responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining heavy mechanical equipment used in various industries. Their responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures, transporting equipment to the installation site, and assembling machinery and equipment. Millwrights also conduct tests and inspections to ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently. They execute maintenance tasks and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and extend the lifecycle of equipment.
Core Tasks and Duties
The day-to-day tasks of a Millwright include:
* Inspecting and examining machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.
* Installing, aligning, dismantling, and moving stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
* Operating machine tools to fabricate parts required during the overhaul, maintenance, or set-up of machinery.
* Adjusting machinery and repairing or replacing defective parts.
* Aligning and testing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
* Participating in safety audits and adhering to workplace safety policies and regulations.
* Willing to work a flexible schedule including overtime on weekends.
Education and Certification Requirements
* Candidates need to have completed a high school education or equivalent.
* Completed apprenticeship in millwrighting or a combination of over four years of work experience and industry courses in millwrighting are required.
* Certification may include a trades certificate or license which verifies the individual has met all professional standards of knowledge and competence.
* Continued education might be necessary to keep up with advancements in technology and changes in regulations.
* This role demands individuals who are mechanically inclined and possess strong problem-solving skills, as millwrights will face unique challenges daily.
* Effective communication skills are crucial in this role due to the need to work collaboratively with other technical staff and report to management on maintenance procedures and concerns.
* Play a key role in ensuring that industrial plants operate at maximum efficiency with minimal downtime.
* Expertise in mechanical equipment supports the ongoing growth and productivity levels required in fast-paced industrial environments.
