This position will report directly to the Operations Leader at our Starke, FL location. The Mine Manager provides oversight, leadership and direction for the site and ensures safe, continuous and efficient production of heavy mineral concentrate (HMC). Responsible for meeting fixed and variable cost objectives, adhering to policies, procedures and safety standards. Provides leadership for approximately 50-70 direct and indirect reports, including contractors. The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide site leadership to deliver on production goals and continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance;
- Ensure adherence to all MSHA rules and regulations;
- Ensure adherence to all state and federal environmental rules and regulations;
- Review all lagging and leading-indicator EHS performance metrics and develop appropriate actions;
- Ensure effective systems and procedures are in place to execute all mine site activities;
- Provide accurate and detailed production reporting;
- Optimize mobile equipment fleet in conjunction with mine planning and fleet management departments;
- Ensure operations are adhering to reclamation schedule to minimize site footprint;
- Review, approve and execute weekly and monthly mine plans; including reclamation goals;
- Support training and development plans for all mine personnel;
- Minimize costs while ensuring that all company, regulatory and landowner obligations are met;
- Responsible for reporting monthly cost variance vs budget/outlook;
- Champion continuous improvement projects across the site while encouraging employee generated initiatives intended to reduce safety risk, increase production volume and reduce operating costs. The following is required for this role:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering, Geology, or other relevant field with three to five years' experience, or;
- Ten years experience in mining;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence employees, peers and stakeholders; able to take a hands-on approach with operators to facilitate change and get results;
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
- Excellent verbal and written skills The following is preferred for this role:
- Experience in mineral sands mining; and
- Extensive experience in heavy equipment and maintenance operations;
- In depth understanding of geologic modeling and the associated software.
