JOB SUMMARY

Provides attorney support and guidance in areas of mitigation, treatment, rehabilitation, and sentencing/disposition alternatives including development of individualized plans for clients. Provides assistance to attorneys in developing defense strategies for clients.

Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

* Interviews client/family and interested parties to assist in the development of treatment/sentencing plans.

* Establish ongoing rapport with clients, family, and other witnesses in a culturally competent way that overcomes barriers those individuals may have against the disclosure of sensitive information.

* Identify, obtain, and analyze anecdotal and documentary evidence relevant to a client's life history and development.

* Access clients' and witnesses mental health, and describe mental health symptomology.

* Conducts assessments of juveniles and adults to identify issues related to mental health, intellect, substance use/misuse, trauma, multigenerational patterns of behavior.

* Make suggestions regarding treatment and disposition.

* Identify what alternatives to incarceration may be more appropriate to a case.

* Presents and/or submits reports to the Court under the supervision and approval of the assigned attorney when requested.

* Locates residential treatment and outpatient treatment programs as a resource for clients.

* Networks with individuals and community agencies for access to social, educational and employment resources.

* Assists clients with reintegration into the community.

* To promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.

* Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.

* Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

* Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Science, Social Science or closely related field.

* Three (3) years of professional casework experience within a criminal justice, social service or court agency.

* Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Prior adult and/or juvenile indigent defense mitigation experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to work with traumatic subject matter (crime scenes and accidents)

* Ability to work with interruptions, time pressure, and high volumes of work.

* Ability to work handle multiple or complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, and frequently changing tasks.

* Skill in accuracy, decision making, and concentration/vigilance.

* Ability to work with a team or in close proximity with others.

* Ability to work with the public.

* Effectively summarize facts and details in a clear and concise manner

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work requires Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment.
