Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To perform the duties required in the maintenance and repair of exterior school properties and other areas as needed in order to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and presentation of grounds to students, parents, school personnel and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: Valid Texas Drivers License
Special Knowledge/ Skills: Knowledge of equipment for grounds care is desired Ability to operate the required equipment as assigned
Ability to lift or manipulate heavy objects or equipment Ability to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to understand and work with a sense of urgency

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Perform duties in an effective and efficient manner for the purpose of supporting and contributing to the achievement of district goals
2. Required use of string trimmers and mowers
3. Cut and trim trees and shrubs as required
4. Operate manual equipment such as shovels, diggers, wheelbarrow, trimmers, saw and other equipment as necessary
5. Ensure assigned exterior areas are free of trash daily
6. Rake leaves, grass clippings, and trash as required.
7. Prepare athletic facilities for sporting events
8. Repair streets and parking lots
9. Mend fences and secure gates
10. Move furniture and set up for events and special classes/functions.
11. Assist Electrician, Plumber, HVAC, Carpenter, and IT as a labor helper as directed by the Supervisor
12. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties
13. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any unsafe conditions to the Supervisor
14. Accurately report work hours using the sign-in to report start and end times.
15. Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful
16. Comply with all policies, procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives
17. Comply with the Employee Standards of Conduct
18. Work overtime as needed
19. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
EQUIPMENT USED:
Ladders, hand and power tools, light truck or van, trailer, mowers, dolly, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate and follow instructions both verbal and written; ability to work well independently or with other people.
Physical Demand/Environmental Factors: Frequent district-wide travel. Heavy Work that involves exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Continual walking, standing, climbing, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching (including above the shoulder), and repetitive movements of wrists and elbows. Ability to operate hand and power tools, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work outdoors and indoors, exposure to extreme temperatures. Work around equipment with moving parts, exposure to electrical hazards. Ability to operate a motor vehicle with a trailer.
