POSITION DESCRIPTION
Competencies:
The staff member must demonstrate knowledge of:
Signs and symptoms of substance use disorder
Signs and symptoms of mental health disorder
Crisis intervention services on-site and off-site, face-to-face, within the home, and community
De-escalation techniques
Assessing the clients strengths and mental health needs accurately and objectively
Providing selected therapeutic communication to clients
Clients rights and confidentiality
Typing and basic computer usage
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays according to on-call rotation
The requirement of adhering to policies and procedures of the agency and professional standards.
The staff member must demonstrate skills in:
Establishing trust between clients and treatment team members
Providing information and referrals to community services both in person and via the phone
Assisting in implementation of goals and objectives identified in treatment plans
Interacting with clients as peers by sharing common experiences
Assisting clients in understanding and managing their disorder and symptoms
Assisting clients in connecting with self-help groups when appropriate
Assisting clients in gaining access to local programs and services
Clarifying clients understanding of their rights and responsibilities as a recipient of substance use disorder services
Completing all necessary as required
Maintaining strict confidentiality at all times
Communication styles that generate a positive work environment
Locating, coordinating and accessing appropriate services for client.
Essential Functions:
Essential functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Completion of required assessments screenings, including but not limited to the Columbia Suicide Rating Scale (CSSRS)
Engage individuals in the crisis planning process and completion of a safety plan
Build rapport to support increased engagement, instillation of hope, and care coordination
Follow-up with individuals in-person, via phone, or telehealth within two days of the initial crisis intervention
Provide opportunity for warm hand-offs to identified resource needs (insurance navigation, housing, benefits and entitlements, primary care, educational, or vocational supports)
Provide referral to medication management to monitor medication compliance, education and training about medications, monitoring side-effects, and providing other nursing/medical assessments
Provide referral to Case Management (childrens or adult) when appropriate
Act as informant and advocate to clients regarding consumer rights and responsibilities
Develop and maintain close working relationship with management staff, co-workers and peers
Participate in team staffing to provide client and peer insight
Collaborates with treatment team to increase patient engagement in treatment as evidenced by consistent attendance at huddles, weekly team meetings, staffing, clinical supervision, and with community partners
QUALIFICATIONS

Individuals must be in recovery for a minimum of 1 year
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a Peer Recovery Coach Certification (CAPRCI) or Certified Recovery Specialist (CHW/CRS) certification upon employment
One year of related experience preferred
Valid Indiana Drivers license, personal owned auto insurance
Successful completion of a background check
