Having highly talented employees provides the best service to our community. This is a part-time position in the Outreach Services division of the Santa Ana Public Library. The incumbent may work up to 19 hours per week. Work schedule is to be determined. Primary bilingual pay is an additional $1.01 per hour, if applicable. Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To Drives bookmobiles to scheduled library stops such as schools and neighborhood sites. Provides direct support for all bookmobile programs and services. Uses an automated circulation system or manually checks in and out a variety of library materials. Uses a computer database to register borrowers and assist patrons. Collects monies for fines or damaged/lost materials. Responds to general inquiries about library circulation services and promotes library programs. Performs routine clerical tasks, such as typing, filing, routing mail, sorting, shelving and helping in the processing and maintenance of library materials. Loads, unloads and maintains bookmobile in a clean and orderly fashion. Ensures the bookmobile is set up for safe and efficient operations, including checking air or fluid levels, fueling, making minor adjustments and assists with scheduling the unit for preventative maintenance and repairs. May assist at the Main and New Hope Library on an as-needed basis. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Experience in driving vehicles; education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some general clerical or library clerical experience. College coursework in computer technology is preferred or any combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge and abilities: Knowledge of: Business English and arithmetic; office procedures and practices. Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; schedule routine vehicle maintenance or perform minor adjustments to the vehicle; make simple computations and listings with speed and accuracy; learn assigned clerical tasks quickly and readily; develop skill in and adhere to prescribed routines; write legibly and accurately; work independently without close supervision; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, school age children and the general public. Familiarity with computers and technology is highly desirable. NOTE: Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish or Vietnamese is highly desirable but not required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and retain a current California Class C Driver's License as a condition of employment. Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week including split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or on a rotational basis. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbents in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers, open and close to retrieve and shelve material. Incumbent must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent standing and walking.
