Mobile Services Driver-AssistantHours /FLSA status: Part-time Non-Exempt - 20 Hours per Week Works a varied schedule of mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekend rotation Location: Mobile Services Department, Located in the Middlefield Library Reports to: Mobile Services Supervisor Staff Supervised: None Note: There is a $2 pay differential for times when employee is driving the large mobile services vehicle.
Position Summary: Drive the Bookmobile / Outreach vehicles maintaining a schedule. Provide excellent customer service to all patrons. Perform computer and clerical tasks both on the vehicle and in the office.
Essential Job Functions: This list is illustrative, but not exhaustive for this position.
- Drives and parks the vehicles safely. Performs daily pre-trip vehicle maintenance check and notes any issues on vehicle's pre-trip form. Promptly reports any issues with vehicles to the supervisors and Facilities. Drives vehicles to maintenance and repair appointments. In collaboration with Mobile Service Assistants, helps keep vehicles neat and clean.
- Drives and parks the Bookmobile to regular stops in Middlefield and surrounding area, the Fun Bus at Outreach events throughout Geauga County, and the transit vehicle to assisted living facilities and homes.
- Checks materials out to patrons, checks in returned items, and correctly shelves returned items on the vehicle and in office. Check for reserves, replenish shelves and displays as needed for each stop.
- Writes up patron requests for materials and includes all pertinent information on the form. Provides Readers Advisory services on vehicles and in the office.
- Places holds for patrons, searches for and routes daily holds requests.
- Answers phones when in the Mobile Services office and assists patrons on phone as needed. When needed, help to prepare vehicles for the next shift. Assists with Outreach, assists with volunteers, and attend parades and other events.
- Promotes seasonal programs on the vehicles, such as the summer reading program.
- Check employee e-mail, read Branching Out, and other GCPL communications.
- Keeps supervisor informed of any problems with current stops including patron requests to change parking areas or discontinuing the stop. Recommends titles and/or subject areas to supervisor for possible purchase. Assists with weeding and cancelling books.
- Attends training as required or recommended by administration or supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics: - Willingness and adaptability to work in a changing work environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Must have sufficient computer skills/abilities in order to use the library's online computer system, email, Internet and online databases, social media, and the like.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be familiar with library resources.
- Ability to operate all of the controls of mobile library vehicles.
- Have basic mechanical understanding.
- Ability to carry out assigned route on time.
- Safely observes all PERRP procedures.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements: - High school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver's license is required to operate library-owned vehicles and a clean driving record (no moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the last 5 years) must be maintained at all times.
- Has reliable transportation in order to meet work obligations such as meetings and delivering holds to patrons when necessary.
- Successful completion of background check.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to regularly lift and carry 30-40 lb. bags of books up and down vehicle steps.
- Ability to work in confined space.
- Ability to operate objects, tools, or controls - including computers, phones, and office equipment.
- Competence in completing tasks that involve reading or visual inspection, with or without visual aids.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, walk and/or kneel in order to shelve books on vehicle both the highest and lowest shelving.
Pay Range: $14 per hour
